Arch of Constantine

Cambodunum Lodge was consecrated on the 24th of July 1919 when members of Thornhill Lodge No.1514, asked for permission to form a new Lodge. Permission was granted by the United Grand Lodge of England and Cambodunum Lodge was formed in the same building as Thornhill Lodge.Taking it's name from a local Roman fortress which was a staging post for troops journeying from York to Chester. They chose for their banner the "Arch of Constantine" in memory of the first Christian ruler of Rome. Constantine was not averse to saving money, and in the construction, he removed carvings from adjacent archways to use on his own.

What is Freemasonry and who can be members

Freemasonry is a charitable society for men only, Money is given to charitable organisations and other good causes, this money runs into millions of pounds, all of which comes from the pockets of Masons. Freemasonry is not a secret society no matter what the popular press would have you believe, it is a society with secrets. Members are not restrained from openly admitting membership, indeed openness is encouraged. Membership is open to men over the age of 21 years, and who are of good character, with a desire to become better members of society, and better family members. Freemasonry is not a religion and members are encouraged to follow their own religion. Indeed the only requirement neccessary for any potential candidate is a belief in a supreme being.
